about
Ngiyabonga means thank you in Zulu. It is a song about the journey of love and provision I have experienced with my Father: Thus the need to celebrate this relationship. It is a song about the a daughter raised by a single father, after her mother walked out on the family. It is the story that is never told. This is the story my song is sharing with you.
lyrics
Verse 1:
Umama wahamba
wasishiya singenalutho.
(Mom left us with nothing)
Kodwa wena, wasikhulisa
kodwa wena wawukhona.
(But you raised us, through it all you were there.)
Yebo ngiyavuma kwakungelula, kodwa wena wawukhona
(I have to say it was not easy, but through it all you were there.)
Silala sivuka ngenhlupheko
kodwa wena wawukhona
(Going to sleep and waking up to poverty, but through it all you were there.)
Chorus:
Mina ngiyabonga, ngiyabonga, ngiyabonga Baba x2
(I thank you, Thank you, Thank you My Father.)
Verse 2:
Kukhona malanga lapho kunzima
kodwa wena wawukhona.
(Some days were very tough, through it all you were there.)
Baba kukhon'izinsuku silala singadlile
likati lilele eziko.
(Somedays we slept hungry, the cat slept in the fire pit [Zulu idiom for Poverty])
Ngisho noma abantu basihleka, kodwa wena wawukhona
(Even though people were laughing at us, through it all you were there.)
Yebo ngiyavuma kwakungelula
kodwa wena wawukhona
(I have to say it wasn't easy, but through it all you were there.)
Chorus:
Ngiyabonga Ngiyabonga Ngiyabonga Baba x2
(Thank you, Thank you, Thank you My Father.)
Bridge:
Ubumnyama sebudlulile bonke
(The dark days are behind us)
Sebudlulile bonke, sekukhona ukukhanya
(The dark days are behind us, the light has come.)
Ubunyama budlulile bonke,
(The dark days are behind us)
Sebudlulile bonke, jabula baba wami.
(The dark days are behind us, rejoice my father)
Wena uliqhawe lami, ngiyabonga
(You are my hero, thank you)
Uliqhawe lami, ngiyabonga
(You are my hero, thank you)
Qhawe lami ngiyabona
(My hero, thank you)
Chorus
